A Good Mandate for Taking a Holiday

“According to a Greek legend, in ancient Athens a man noticed the
great storyteller Aesop playing childish games with some little boys.
He laughed and jeered at Aesop, asking him why he wasted his time
in such frivolous activity.
Aesop responded by picking up a bow, loosening its string, and
placing it on the ground. Then he said to the critical Athenian,
“Now, answer the riddle, if you can. Tell us what the unstrung bow
implies.”
The man looked at it for several moments but had no idea what
point Aesop was trying to make. Aesop explained, “If you keep a bow
always bent, it will break eventually; but if you let it go slack, it will
be more fit for use when you want it.”
People are also like that. That’s why we all need to take time to
rest. In Scripture, Jesus prescribed time off for His wearied
disciples after they had returned from a prolonged period of
ministry. And in the Old Testament, God set a pattern for us when
He “rested from all His work” (Gen. 2:3).
Shouldn’t we take His example seriously? Start by setting aside a
special time to relax physically and renew yourself emotionally and
spiritually. You will be at your best for the Lord if you have taken
time to loosen the bow.”

Wishing God’s best for you and yours,

Holidays

Hi All, First day backat work today, so I thought I'd do a quick update on our summer holiday.
Christmas day was in Dunedin, the highlight was definately lying in bed, listening to the kids opening their Christmas Stockings which had mysteriously appeared overnight.

We did church, although I spent most of it in the creche with caleb, enduring a small tantrum.

Lunch was held at Sarah's parents, with cuzzies, great uncles etc. more presents were opened here. It was a bit drizzly, so we mostly stayed indoors.

Boxing day was spent packing, playing with new toys, and we also had a quick catchup with some friends who were visiting Dunedin from Christchurch.

We spent the next 6 Days at Waitaki with Grants Mum & Dad, plus Brother Rodney and his fiance Akari.
Waitaki Highlights:
  • Gideon and Caleb both caught their first trout.
  • Jonathan caught his first seagull with a trout rod.
  • Jonathan really got the hang of riding a 2 wheeler
  • Grant got half a days fly fishing on the Otematata river
  • Hanging out with the family
  • The heat (25 c + each day)
  • No crowds

We then went to Chrischurch for four days before coming home.

Christchurch Highlights:

  • Orana Park
  • Shopping Malls
  • Playgrounds
  • Mountain biking at Bottle Lake

We then dashed home so Grant could be the MC at a friends wedding. Nerve racking, but fun
